Baby Stuff

After four kids I have owned a lot of baby stuff. I have bought useful and highly useless things. These are the things that make the list, tried true and useful items I have used for all four kids and some that I found just in time for number four!

  1. Graco Fast Action Fold Click Connect Jogger Travel System Love love love this stroller. I did research for this one and it held up! My sister even ended up buying the same one! Easy to pack up, a but heavy but I can load it and unload it on my own so it can’t be that bad.
  2. Baby Pacifier Clip Holder I didn’t have these with the first three. I don’t know why… Phoenix and Declan had soothers but Mason & Nixon did not. But these clips are amazing for keeping toys inside the carseat! No more losing toys or teething rings! I got this idea from my sister actually, its brilliant!
  3. An Excersaucer: (this one isn’t exactly the same but pretty darn close) My Aunt bought us one for a gift when the twins were born and we are still using it through to baby number four! He is currently sitting in it in the kitchen while we get dinner ready! Mind you they do need to be a couple months old to go in it but it’s been a gift from God! Keeps him busy and allows Momma to get things done.
  4. Sock & wrist rattles : We have these exact ones for Nixon. We’ve had plenty of other ones over the year but they are so handy to strap to the car seat, keep them busy in the crib or just something to chew on! The crazy colours and patterns are pretty entertaining to a baby.
  5. Portable highchair: These things are great. We’ve always had odd table sets (an old antique one, a long thick one and now a bar high table) So using a regular highchair is generally a pain. We had these with the twins, got them at a two for one sale. When the boys were little we’d put them in the chairs and face them towards each other in hopes that they would entertain each other while momma got a little work done. it was also great so we could all eat dinner together!

My new favs with number four baby!

  1. Muslin blankets: I always wanted these but never ended up getting any with the other three boys. I have a bunch now and i love them! light weight, cozy, cute designs and Nixon loves them too!
  2. Hydrasense nasal aspirator: This something I never dreamed I would be purchasing. I thought it was gross and there was no way I could do it…However when your two month old gets a cold from his older brothers and can barely breath, you suck it up…literally. It. Is. Amazing! They aren’t big fans of it but it works so well and makes them, and you, feel so much better! I defiantly recommend this! So great to have on hand!

Don’t waste your money (in my opinion)

  1. Travel Bottle warmer: They rarely work. It takes forever. We were always fans of room temperature bottles…don’t want to spoil them too much lol
  2. Diaper Genie: Great idea in theory but they don’t really hold much, they are a pain in the butt to empty and reload annnnd they rarely seem to be in the room you change the baby in!
  3. Pee pee teepee: A silly little invention to avoid getting peed on by your little boy…like a party hat over his bits. Cute idea but unless that baby is sleeping while you change him, its going to fall off and if you can’t change a diaper real quick anyway you’re doomed to have many instances of baby hands in the poop!
  4. Boogie Wipes: Specifically designed to wipe your childs nose…you know, like a kleenex….or a baby wipe even! Save your money. Your child will be fine, I promise.
  5. Pacifier wipes: Same idea as above…a baby wipe will sufice…or some hot water…sometimes a good ol’ swipe on your jeans lol

The king

When Nick and I were dating we slept in a double bed. We slept with our arms around each other and our legs intertwined. He snored in my face… And I didn’t mind. His alarm would go off (Alexis on Fire… Loud and obnoxious) and I still didn’t mind. Ahhhh young love!

When we moved in together we had a queen, livin large! But we still slept like honeymooners… But with our new pup Oliver. He was usually on our feet or on my head.

When I was pregnant with the twins, in our new house, we had the queen, Oliver annnnd now Charlie. One big happy family. With dogs all around us we still managed to at least have our legs touching.

And then, one day, we got a king! The biggest bed I had ever seen. We kicked the dogs out and both slept like starfish in the night! When nick was at work the babies would sleep on his side and I would be on mine and there was tons of room and no worry of them rolling off!

With Mason, however, he slept with is for the first 7 months or so and the bed seemed to get smaller. Even with his own room there aways seemed to be a kid, or two, sometimes three in our bed… Much smaller king now. Nick used to complain about the boys coming into our bed at night, but I knew it wouldn’t be for long, sadly.

Enter Nixon. When I was pregnant there was always kids in our bed, one, two or three of them. Me and my belly would teeter on the edge just to have a cuddle with my ever growing boys. They’d fight over who got to sleep beside mommy (awwww) Going on ten months and Nixon is still in our bed (which I’m ok with) the older boys still pop in from time to time but my giant king size bed isn’t as big as it used to be! But if it means boy snuggles… I’m not complaining. My babes are growing up way to fast to worry about a good night’s sleep!

Worst Mom ever

You know when you have a great idea, like it pops into your head and you just think…”I’m totally going to be the coolest Mom for this!”
My kids asked for lunch, as they do, so I asked what they felt like. Only 2 kids were home and they both wanted peanut butter sandwiches. (Boring but an absolute staple in our house.) I had this awesome idea when I opened up the cupboard! What if…I put peanut butter on a hot dog bun, put a little bit of honey down the centre then topped it off with banana!?! Coolest Mom ever, Right?!

Wrong, dead wrong. The horror in my kids faces was almost as though I had killed their beloved pet then took all their toys to Good Will. One of them started crying so uncontrollably that he was hyperventilating and the other one was so pissed that I had the audacity to not make boring food.

Needless to say I dumped the fun food, made 2 boring peanut butter sandwiches (1 slice, flipped) and I vowed never to make them that again… or anything else for that matter. (joking…I am legally obligated to feed them)

I need fun, non confrontational , food ideas for my kids! HELP!

Welcome to crazy…and the army that made me that way!

I thought I’d throw in a little ‘getting to know you’ post. Meet my kids. These are the 4 little people in my life that make me crazy. Crazy happy, crazy mad, crazy sad and just plain crazy.

Nick and I got pregnant on our first, and last, trip. Also known as our honeymoon. I found out 6 weeks after our wedding that we were expecting and a month or so after that we found out there was more than one in there. Shock and awe. Shock and awe. Our lives have been a whirlwind. We go big or go home. Pregnancy wasn’t any different. So we had twins, Phoenix and Declan. Then 21 months and an area code change later we had another, Mason, and 4.5 years after that we had our last, Nixon. I know what you’re thinking…number 4 was an oopsie! Jokes on you! Number 4 was planned. I knew when I was still in the hospital with #3 that I wanted another, it just took some time to get hubby on board.

So four boys. No girls allowed (in my uterus)! I thought I would be sad about that and some days maybe I am a little but then I think of how cool my kids are and how loving they are towards their momma and I feel better. I do still pray every night that I don’t get a bitchy daughter in law! I am thankful for my boys and I am killin it as a boy mom…If i do say so myself!

I always wonder if having multiple girls was different then multiple boys…anyone have just girls? Is your house as crazy as mine?!

Do it yourself!

When I went back to work after my third son, February 2014. I had two 2.5 year olds and a 1 year old at home and I was going back to a 9 hour work day, two different shifts, in a factory an hour and 15 minutes away. Not ideal. Although my husband is amazing, daddy and husband, it was so hard to find a work/home balance. (still trying)

After months of busting my ass being a fulltime (and then some) working mom and pretending I had it all under control it finally hit me! My kids were quite capable of doing it themselves! I gave them life! Now I needed to give them the tools to be independent! Also in all reality I was about to lose my damn mind and if someone else didn’t start doing shit around the house I was going to check myself into a loonie bin!

So it started off with the little things; pick up your toys, bring your bowl into the kitchen. We taught them life skills so we didn’t have to wait on them hand and foot.

Once the older boys started school they had to unpack their backpack and empty their lunch bag. This isn’t rocket science. These are basic life skills. No child labour here.

Now that we are sitting at 6, 6 and 4 years old we have a full-blown chart! PhotoGrid_1513051612582That’s right kids, Momma isn’t your maid or your servant anymore! I refuse to raise kids, boys especially, who cannot do anything for themselves. It is 2017 and men and women have equal spots in the household. Chores included. (end rant)

We have rotating jobs and the boys get paid 25 cents a day (when we remember and have quarters) They hate it some days but some days they are more than happy to help out. They are learning that you gotta give alittle to get alittle! Come home from school, unpack their bags, do a chore or two and complete one math work page and then they can have their TV time.

So call it what you want, but their future wives will thank me one day!

5 tips to easier Momming!

If I could give 5 tips to help do your best Momming it would be these; Simple yet effective. Keep your sanity ladies, you’re gonna need it!

#1: A hands free pumping bra: I did not own one of these until number four came along and man it is a life changer! My life could have been so much easier had I bought one sooner! We are full on milking over here now! Liquid gold for dayyyyys!

#2: Sleep nursing: Now I did this with number two as well but I am still constantly telling new moms how to do this. I sat up in bed nursing number four for a couple weeks, watching my husband sleep soundly. (Actually snoring his face off) Pretty much until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. One night I literally fell asleep nursing sitting up and I decided enough was enough. I laid down and tucked him in ever so perfectly and while I semi slept (a little more than not sleeping at all) he nursed and dreamt of a never-ending milk supply! It was a win win for all. Obviously this is a comfort thing too, so if you aren’t comfortable don’t do it.

Here’s a link to a YouTube video in case you have no idea what I am talking about

#3: Whiteboards: I’ve mentioned my whiteboards, my lists and my random signs everywhere. As a family of six we need all the help we can get! Whiteboards are easy to change and grow as the tasks do. Ours change weekly with our rotating chores for the kids and we have one for daily reminders as well.

#4: Straws: Yes straws! Your regular drinking straw cut into three different sizes. Tuck those three pieces away for quick and easy deciding! Who’s having a shower first? Draw straws! Who’s going with Daddy? Draw straws! Who’s turn to pick the movie? Draw straws! Easy Peasy! You cant get mad a the straws now can you?! (Actually they can, and will but drawing straws still works wonderfully and it doesn’t make you the bad guy because they picked, not you! )

Deciding straws!

#5: Storage! Bins, boxes & hooks: Its basically like the old ‘sweep it under the rug’ trick… except it looks better. You can take clutter and mess and throw it into cute bins, boxes or buckets and it looks great! Cute little hooks put all those superhero capes on display and leave room in the bins for all the other stuff! Anything that gives us more space to put stuff is a win. We have a small house with a lot of people in it! I have to say the best purchase I made was my Ikea storage shelves!

This is a before and after of the boys toy room. You can see all the organizational bins and boxes I have to put stuff away (hide stuff) in.
